"1983" was founded in 2019. It is located on the ground floor of a local artist's ancestral house in a Kam Tin old walled village. Upon application and approval, the space offers visitors for chats, gatherings, seminars, screenings, performances, workshops, live streamings, etc. The half-domestic half-studio setting blurs various socially established borders between cultural workers, thereby bringing them together locally and internationally. 1983 has already hosted more than 80 events, including visiting guests from Japan, Mexico, Palestine, the United States, China, Taiwan, Britain, Senegal, Norway and Hong Kong. The cumulative number of participants exceeds 800. In addition, 1983 focuses on artistic researches and projects about emotions, surroundings, heritage, and communities.
